The effects of binge-watching and spacing on learning L2 multi-word units from captioned TV series

The present study explores the effects of distributed practice by extending this area research to L2 learning from audiovisual input. A total 96 L1 Russian elementary advanced learners English watched five episodes captioned TV series under three viewing distribution conditions: longer spacing once per week; shorter day; and massed binge-watching all in one session. participants’ knowledge 25 target multi-word units was tested via Vocabulary Knowledge Test before after intervention. analyses considered learners’ conditions, proficiency level feeling as factors. results indicated that participants significantly improved their regardless condition, but there a benefit compared other two groups. Although is an enjoyable everyday activity for many viewers, it might be advisable space sessions achieve better outcomes.
